ReplySince the food we can access quickly is often the wrong food, a good strategy is to bring food to work. Remember the days of the lunch box? Not such a bad idea! Today, we can buy small coolers and pack them with whatever is good, real and fresh. If you rely on the food that's "out there", it's very likely to control you. Not so the food you choose and bring with you.

ReplyWhile I think it's a great idea to make healthy food cheaper, I don't think people choose junk food because of the price. They choose it because it's been engineered to hit the high points in their taste buds and that works very well. The foods we choose are easy, fun, addictive and deadly. While I'd like to see fruits and veggies cheaper, I don't think that's a major part of the answer.

ReplyHi Joanne!
I'm so happy to get your message. It's really amazing what the body can do when it's fueled correctly. It's equally amazing how destructive poor fuels can be to both performance and our general health. I always think of the body as a priceless Ferrari. It doesn't run well on kerosene and we wouldn't think of putting that in the gas tank. Yet we don't consider what we put into our own tank. Best of luck to your daughter. I'm impressed! -

ReplyThere is an extensive body of anthropologic research that has concluded that grains were not a part of the ancient diet although they might have been used as subsistence foods in a pinch. I refer you to the work of Dr. Loren Cordain, S. Boyd Eaton, Melvin Konner and others. The issue is probably less one of whether ancient humans existed on grains (they likely did not) and more one of whether our body can adapt to vastly changed eating styles. We obviously have eaten grains for about ten thousand years, but there may be a threshold at which our insulin mechanism becomes overwhelmed by starch and sugar. It is my opinion that we are dangerously past that threshold.

Well, perhaps the if we look at it in the most charitable light we can say that she's clueless, just like many Americans who think that pills can reverse the damage done by not taking care of themselves. But it is a shame that she would perpetuate this belief and sell it to others. I'm sure she has the drug company whispering in her ear and waving the big bucks in front of her. It's no different than the celebs who push the various diets for money... Truly learning to take care of yourself is an important and serious undertaking. As a society, we've got to stop looking to singers, actors and chefs to somehow tell us how to redeem ourselves.
