Mayfield Officials Pleased with Sale of Marsol

Mayfield officials hope Rochester, N.Y.-based Morgan Communities' acquisition of Marsol will lead to fewer reported crimes there

Though fights, thefts and other crimes at Marsol Towers continue to fill the Mayfield Heights Police log, city officials are hopeful for a safer future. Residents of the six-building apartment campus on Marsol Road recently received letters discussing a change in ownership. Willoughby-based K&D Group has sold the property to Morgan Properties, a firm in Rochester, N.Y. that manages and operates apartments in 10 states. "This company will be doing some house cleaning with regard to the suites and any problem tenants that they have in the complex," Mayfield Heights Councilwoman Gayle Teresi said. "I was very excited to hear that." The company's website now offers visitors the opportunity to explore and apply for leases at Marsol. …

Drunk Man Falls Off Bike at Mayfield-Lander: Police Blotter

Rock throwers: Police responded to a call at 9:19 p.m. May 4 regarding a group of teens believed to be causing trouble. According to the police report, four teenage girls were walking south on Fruitland Avenue and seen picking up rocks and decorations from home yards and throwing them into the street. The caller said they were loud and using foul language. The girls were walking towards Marsol, the caller said, but the police were unable to locate the group. Drunk on a bike: Mayfield Heights Police traveled to the intersection of Mayfield and Lander roads at 9:21 p.m. May 4 to check on a man a caller said was highly intoxicated on while riding his bike. Algiers Drive Residents Evacuated During Garage Fire: Mayfield Heights Police Blotter

The following information was supplied by the Mayfield Heights Police Department

Incidents reported May 3: Fire on Algiers: A garage fire caused Mayfield Police to close Algiers Drive for about 40 minutes and evacuate residents the morning of May 3. A resident on the street reported smoke showing from the home's garage at 11:12 a.m. According to police, the garage became fully involved about two minutes later. Propane tanks were near the garage and a car was parked near it. Homes in the area were evacuated. Mayfield's fire chief and captain were advised of the fire, but it was out within 10 minutes. No injuries were reported. Gift card theft: A security guard at Target female employee on May 3 for stealing gift cards from the big-box retailer. An officer arrested her and brought her back to the station.

Fights at City Pool & Marsol Apartments: Mayfield Heights Police Blotter

Incidents reported May 1-2: Marsol fight: Six units from the Mayfield Heights Police Department responded to Marsol Apartments to break up a large skirmish at 3:27 p.m. on May 1. The caller reported a large group of teenagers fighting in front of the building at 6501 Marsol Road. It was unclear why the kids were fighting, but the fight was broken up without any arrests. Cleaning woman steals?: A Fox Hollow Drive woman said an unspecified amount of items and valuables had been missing from her home. The woman suspected a hired cleaning woman had been taking the items. Police agreed to investigate the matter. Truck on Fire on 271: Mayfield Heights Police Blotter

Incidents reported April 30 - May 1: Truck on fire: Mayfield Heights Police and firefighters from the area responded on April 30 to Interstate 271 where a truck was on fire. A caller first alerted police to a pulled-over Ford pickup truck that was smoking in the southbound lanes of 271 near the Mayfield Road exits at 7:27 p.m. Soon, the tire exploded and the city's fire department was dispatched. By 7:34, the truck became fully engulfed. Firefighters from Mayfield Village and Highland Heights helped Mayfield departments, and cities north of Mayfield had portions of the highway shut down and diverted. Incidents reported from April 22 to April 26: Empty bottles: A resident near Lander and Maplewood roads called Mayfield Heights Police on April 22 after finding empty alcohol bottles in his side yard. The resident said that a few times a week he finds a few empty wine bottles in his side yard on the Maplewood side of his home. He requested the department's special attention because he has seen the bottles repeatedly in recent weeks. One of the man's neighbors told him he had experienced the same problem. Police vowed to check into the matter. Wrong-way driver: Mayfield Heights Police pulled a driver over just after 8 p.m. April 23 after receiving calls about the woman's car driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of Mayfield Road. She …

FBI Webcam Scam Hits Mayfield Resident

The scam arises from a virus that can control webcams and post fake FBI messages

An Internet scam involving the FBI and child pornography accusations found its way to a Mayfield Heights home in April. According to a Mayfield Heights Police report, a resident called police on April 24 to report that a message from the FBI with its logo suddenly appeared on her laptop screen as she searched for properties on Homes.com. The message said the FBI was "confiscating" her information because the agency believed child pornography was stored on the computer. The woman said her webcam suddenly turned on and snapped a picture of her. The image then appeared next to the FBI page. The woman's husband later called the Cleveland FBI to find out if the message actually came from the federal agency. An agent told the man that his wife …

Incidents reported on April 20: Lengthy test drive: A Marshall Ford employee called Mayfield Heights Police at 1:46 p.m. with concerns about a customer who had been on a test drive for 30 minutes. The employee admitted the man did not provide a driver's license for the dealership to copy. Still, the dealership permitted him to try out a BMW. The Akron man's car sat in the rear of the lot while he was gone. The man returned at 3:19 p.m. with the vehicle in tact. Theft and return: A Golf Galaxy worker reported a theft and return by a customer at 2:45 p.m. The employee said a Titleist golf driver valued at $400 was stolen from the store the previous night. Incidents reported in early April: Neighborly dispute: A caller from Commonwealth Avenue told Mayfield Heights Police that he came home to find a car parked in his driveway on April 7 that he had not seen before. Though the caller didn't initially recognize the car, it ended up belonging to a neighbor. The parked car turned out to be an orchestrated stunt that was part of an ongoing feud between the two. An officer told the neighbor to move the car and not park there again in the future. Crash leads to argument: A driver called police on April 8 to report a two-car crash at Eastgate Plaza around 3 p.m. According to the police report, the caller, who was not involved in the crash, was concerned about a heated altercation. According to prosecutors, Michael Paster was arrested for trying to buy sex from someone who he thought was a 15-year-old girl

Michael Paster, 37, of Mayfield Heights, is accused of trying to buy sex from someone who he thought was a 15-year-old girl. Paster was arrested after an investigation by the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office, Mayfield Heights Police, U.S. Secret Service and the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. Paster was arrested after traveling to the Cleveland area for a meet-up with the girl, according to the prosecutor's office. Instead, he was met by law-enforcement officials. Prior to traveling, Paster indicated that he would pay $100 for the sexual activity. Paster has been charged with two counts of importuning and one count each of compelling prostitution, attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and possessing criminal…
