Police Blotter: Fire Breaks Out on Belwood

The Highland Heights Fire Department responded to a fire on Belwood Dr. as the resident living there reported the back of his home was burning the evening of Aug. 22. The fire departments of Mayfield Village, Richmond Heights and Lyndhurst were all alerted to the blaze. The home was completely evacuated and no one was reportedly injured. Dispute: Various people reportedly said a fight broke out at Harry Buffalo in the early morning hours on Aug. 22. Those involved left the scene heading westbound on Highland Rd. Police arrived to discover that no fight had occurred and that the arguments between the people involved yelling and some pushing. But police found a man on the scene that had a warrant from the Cuyahoga County Sherriff’s Office …

Police Blotter: Solicitor Not Amusing

A Maypine Farm Blvd. resident said a man came to her door and handed her a tri-fold pamphlet the afternoon of Aug. 13. He told her a joke she did not appreciate and told him she was not interested in what he was selling. Police later found him at the Aberdeen Blvd. and Miner Rd. intersection. He was told to get a permit and leave the area. The resident was updated on the situation. Spat: A man and woman caused a disturbance in front of Denny’s just after midnight on Aug. 11. Police helped settle the situation. The woman agreed to eventually get personal items from the man’s house in Gates Mills. Police Blotter: A Little Whiff of Marijuana

Two women were arrested for drug offenses after being stopped going southbound on I-271 the evening of Aug. 8. Officers smelled marijuana coming from their car, a 2012 Audi. One was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The other woman was arrested and was suspected of possibly possessing of cocaine.  Fired employee: Management at Swagelok was concerned that an employee that was fired the day before would attempt to show up the morning of Aug. 8 as other employees arrived for work. They requested that police keep an eye out for the employee who was involved in an altercation and made other workers feel threatened. Police didn’t know what vehicle he would be driving or if he had a history of violence. Suspicious items…

Police Blotter: Couple Has Dispute

A woman says her boyfriend knocked her down and locker her out of his house on N. Stonehaven Dr. during the evening of July 27. The boyfriend called police to have her removed, and the police subsequently took her from the residence. No charges were filed. Later in the day, an officer reported that someone had knocked over three landscaping lights at the residence. DUI: A driver was arrested for a DUI at the intersection of N. Greenway Ct. and Aberdeen Blvd. the early morning of July 29. Big fine: A driver was arrested for having acquired 12 points on the driving under suspension rule, no Ohio driver’s license and passing in the left lane in a no passing zone. The driver paid the $414 fine and was released. Drug bust: A woman was arrested …

Police Blotter: Police Catch A Repeat Shoplifter at Kohl's

Police captured one of two men who shoplifted at Kohl’s Department Store on two separate days with both getting away the first time on July 21, but with one getting caught the second time around on the afternoon of July 23. One of them was captured and taken into custody, while an officer unsuccessfully attempted to nab the other one on foot. The man was wearing a white T-Shirt and carrying a backpack. Both are estimated to be between 18- and 20-years old. The previous Saturday, the two men both left the store after security thought they had shoplifted. Police Blotter: City Handles Power Outage

Highland Heights suffered a city-wide power outage on July 17 that began at 9:30 p.m. that was resolved a little more than two hours later. The Cleveland Electric Illuminating company attempted to resolve the problem, while the city used generators to operate stoplights at the Franklin Blvd. and Wilson Mills Rd. intersection and at the Bishop Rd. and Wilson Mills Rd. intersection. A Brainard Rd. resident needed assistance opening a garage door, and two people on Ridgebury Blvd. needed oxygen during the outage. Drug arrest: Police arrested an 18-year-old man on Radford Dr. with a felony warrant for drug possession and a misdemeanor warrant for possession of drug abuse instruments on the afternoon of July 16. Police Blotter: Store, Officers Stop Thieves

Kohl’s Department Store security and Highland Heights Police combined to prevent a man and woman from completing a theft at the store the afternoon of July 7. The store’s security was attempting to catch the man they thought might be armed. The man wore tan pants, a black hat and a white-striped shirt. Police caught up to the man and arrested him behind Denny’s Restaurant and also took a woman in custody and routed her to the store’s security office. The man was taken to the Highland Heights police station. A woman on N. Greenway Ct. said two of her windows were shattered by golf balls struck from the StoneWater Golf Club the morning of July 2. Her daughter was sitting in front of the windows and playing when the broken glass landed all over her. She wasn’t injured, however. Police Blotter: Man Arrested For Marijuana Possession

A driver was stopped on Bishop Rd. and arrested for being in possession of marijuana on the evening of July 1. Although the driver tested fine and wasn’t under the influence, he was also arrested for having expired plates. Facebook threats: A woman said she had been receiving threatening and harassing messages on Facebook from another woman on the evening of June 26. According to the woman, the other woman’s message said she’s a horrible mother and is going to beat up and kill her. The woman doesn’t want to file charges at this time and just wanted it logged. An employee at Highland Garden Center reported having trouble with a female customer who frequents the business but doesn’t purchase anything during the late afternoon of June 20. The employee said she makes the other employees uncomfortable. Police said she will not be returning to the business. Burglary: Jewelry was reportedly stolen from a husband and wife’s Gretna Green Dr. residence on June 16. The husband said someone had broken into the house the day before, but he didn’t notice anything disturbed. But the wife discovered that all her jewelry was gone.
