Crash in school parking lot: Gates Mills Police responded to a three-car crash in the parking lot of St. Francis of Assisi School. The crash took place just after 8 a.m. Nobody was injured, but one of the drivers, a 50-year-old woman from Gates Mills, was cited for reckless operation on private property. Four-car crash: Police received a report just before 4 p.m. on May 16 of a crash involving four cars on Mayfield Road. This crash also had no injuries. Police cited a 40-year-old Rome resident for failing to maintain an assured clear distance ahead. Hot-air visit: A Chagrin River Road resident had no intention of hosting a landing on May 6, so she was shocked to see a hot air balloon descend on her lawn around 8:23 p.m. The woman called Gates Mills Police to report the surprise landing. An officer spoke with the balloonist, who said he had to make an emergency landing because of changing winds and impending darkness. The balloon was soon removed from the caller's property. Cell-phone fraud: A Sugarbush Lane resident visited the Gates Mills Police station at 3:11 p.m. on May 7 to report a fraud involving his cell phone. The man said an unknown person somehow gained access to his cell phone account and then used the account to make a purchase. Police are investigating the matter. Crash…

Incidents reported May 2-3: Overturned car: Gates Mills Police received a report on May 3 of an overturned car on County Line Road. Officers responded to the crash around 3:38 p.m. and learned that it involved two vehicles. One of the drivers, a 17-year-old male from Pepper Pike, was cited for failing to yield the right of way when turning left. No serious injuries were reported. Where did the lights go: The sudden removal of holiday lights confused a Berkshire Road resident on May 2. The resident traveled to the Gates Mills Police Station to file a theft report for the stolen lights, stating that the lights were taken by an unknown suspect. Incidents reported from April 15-18: Missing tax documents: A Woodstock Road resident visited the Gates Mills Police Department to report missing tax documents. The woman believed the documents were taken her home. She admitted that several people had access to the missing documents, but wasn't sure who may have taken them. The incident remains under investigation, according to police. Dog takes fall: A Chestnut Run resident called police on the afternoon of April 18 to report that his dog had fallen down a 30-foot ravine. The dog suffered unspecified injuries. Incidents reported April 9-12: More thefts at Gilmour: An employee at Gilmour Academy called Gates Mills Police around 10:25 a.m. April 9 to report that an unspecified amount of money was stolen from the aquatic center locker room. An officer met with the caller, who said money was taken from "several" unsecured lockers. No arrests have been made. About a week earlier, police received reports of car break-ins in front of the school. Road altercation: Gates Mills Police responded to a road rage incident around 5:38 p.m. on April 9. Incidents reported in early April: Gilmour break-ins: An employee of Gilmour Academy called the Gates Mills Police Department at 4:45 p.m. on April 3 to report several vehicle break-ins in the parking lot. According to police, an unidentified suspect broke into three different vehicles within an hour, stealing various items. An officer met with the victims that day, but no arrests have been made. Gunfire call: Police responded to reports of gunfire on Sunday afternoon near Hawthorne Farms Drive. Police caught a Willowick man, 43, driving with a suspended driver’s license the afternoon of Aug. 24. The man was pulled over for a speeding violation. The driver was arrested and transported to the Gates Mills jail where he was processed on charges of excessive speeding, driving while under suspension, no driver’s license and drug abuse. The bicyclist, 47, of Chesterland was treated for injuries at Hillcrest Hospital. Theft: A worker at a Battles Rd. residence reported the theft of property the morning of Aug. 13.
