CEVEC Senior is Named Student of the Month

Nicholas Cruz honored at Mayfield Board of Education meeting.

The family of Nicholas Cruz moved here from California when he was in the eighth grade because of the Mayfield City School District's hearing impaired program. His success in the program resulted in being named the Cuyahoga East Vocational Education Consortium Student of the Month. Superintendent Phillip Price and school board members presented him with a proclamation at a recent meeting. Price noted that Nicholas served an internship at Progressive Insurance and turned a temporary job into permanent employment at Marshalls because of his work ethic. "Nick's managers and teachers describe him as a hard worker, responsible and willing to work through the challenges that are presented to him," Price said. Nicholas will be graduating this …

Mayfield Middle School Eighth-Grader is District's Student of the Month

Timothy Carlile is active in sports, student council.

Timothy Carlile was honored at Wednesday's school board meeting at the Mayfield City School District's Student of the Month. An eighth-grader at Mayfield Middle School, Carlile was presented with a resolution, which was read by Superintendent Phillip Price. "His involvement in school activities is outstanding and that he is able to maintain his high level of academic performance is commendable," Price said. In addition to participating in football and wrestling, Carlile is active in student council, "where he develops and implements new ideas," Price said. Price added that Carlile is a role model to his peers, gets along with everyone and has a terrific attitude.

Center Elementary Fifth-Grader Named Student of the Month

Caitlyn Bruce co-chaired a schoolwide toy collection for sick children.

Caitlyn Bruce, a fifth-grader at Center Elementary School, was named the Mayfield City School District Student of the Month. Superintendent Phillip Price presented her with a resolution at a recent school board meeting and said Caitlyn has shown a willingness to help other students and staff. "She has offered her assistance in science class with owl pellets, very commendable, and with other presentations such as a voice thread ecosystem project," Price said. He added that she showed leadership skills in co-chairing the school's toy collection for children at Hillcrest Hospital. She also has been featured as a Center Bucketfiller. Ethan Macula Is January Student of the Month

Fifth-grader attends Center Elementary

Center Elementary School fifth-grader Ethan Macula was named the Mayfield City School District January Student of the Month. He was recognized at the school board meeting Wednesday and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Superintendent Dr. Phillip Price said that in addition to excelling academically, Ethan is an accomplished athlete in ice hockey, basketball and soccer. In nominating Ethan, his teacher noted that he is respectful and always has a kind demeanor. He is also conscientious of others, completes work on time and is a reliable student and friend.
