Week in Review: Ballot Vote, New Bike Rules, New Restaurant, Road Closing, Nasty Fight

Here’s what happened in the Mayfield-Hillcrest area this week.

Ballot Vote – The Highland Heights City Council unanimously voted Tuesday to put the rezoning of property for the Highland Medical Center on the November ballot. New Bike Rules  – Gates Mills chose to suspend a village ordinance to fine bicycle riders $100 for riding across the Walking Bridge now that the Old Mill Rd. Bridge has been reopened at a village council meeting on Tuesday. New Restaurant – Potbelly Sandwich Shop recently opened up on SOM Center Rd. against some tough competition on the block. Road Closing – Ohio Department of Transportation closed Mayfield Rd. eastbound Monday between SOM Center Rd. and County Line Rd. in the Village of Gates Mills for approximately 40 days. Mayfield Heights to Have First Potbelly's in Cleveland Area

The first Cleveland-area Potbelly Sandwich Shop will open this summer at SOM Center Plaza in Mayfield Heights. Stark Enterprises operates the plaza, which is across SOM Center Road from Eastgate shopping center and also contains a Menchie's frozen yogurt store, among other tenants. "Established in 1977, Potbelly has grown from a single shop on Lincoln's Avenue to serve more than 75 neighborhoods throughout Chicagoland and more than 200 neighborhoods nationwide," Lisa Schwan of Stark Enterprises stated in a press release. According to Schwan, Potbelly is known for its warm sandwiches and hand-dipped shakes. Each store is filled with antiques, vintage signs, old photographs, music memorabilia and a potbelly stove.
