President Barack Obama Campaigns at Mentor High School

More than 4,000 supporters pack the school's gymnasium in support of the incumbent

President Barack Obama's visit to Mentor High School began with a "Go Cardinals" and ended with a request for the audience to hit the polls on election day. "Turn out on Tuesday for me," Obama said to a gymnasium full of supporters. According to Mentor Deputy Fire Chief Robert Searles, 4,010 people attended the President's rally. They packed lines around the school's gymnasium entrance well into the 11 a.m. hour. Obama took the stage shortly after noon and spoke for about 29 minutes. Familiarity was a prevailing theme in his speech. "After four years as president, you know me," he said. "You know what I believe. "You know I will fight for you." SAT Testing at Mentor High School Canceled Following Obama Announcement

Testing was to last from 8 a.m. to 12:45; students will be notified by SAT

SAT testing tomorrow at Mentor High School has been cancelled, Mentor Schools spokeswoman Kristen Kirby said. Kirby said representatives from SAT informed the district Friday afternoon. The testing session was to begin at 8 a.m. Sessions typically last until 12:45 p.m. The decision was made to avoid traffic and distractions from President Barack Obama's rally at the high school, which was announced Wednesday afternoon. Doors open at 9 a.m. for the campaign event. Mentor Police will close some roads around the school at some point between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., but the department has not released details. I don't care which party was represented, this is the student's high school and their best interest should have come first! I don't blame the SAT for cancelling. President Obama to Visit Mentor on Saturday

Editor's note: This story was updated at 6:45 p.m. President Barack Obama will make a campaign stop in Mentor just three days before the election. According to a campaign statement, the president will speak at a "grassroots event" somewhere in the city on Saturday. A campaign official said more details will be available soon. The Mentor stop is part of a lengthy weekend tour. Obama will also speak at events in Dubuque, Iowa, Bristow, Va. and Milwaukee on Saturday. He will visit Concord, N.H., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Aurora, Colo. and Cincinnati on Sunday. Obama planned to campaign in Akron on Wednesday, but canceled the event.
