Water is the best medicine
So you had a few too many last night and want some advice on what to do about that hangover? Dr. Arthur Solomon of Hillcrest Hospital cited "an ounce of prevention" as the best cure. Short of finding a time machine and going back to before you overindulged, there are things you can do to help ease the pain. "Hangovers are the result of a combination of dehydration and impurities in many types of alcohol," Solomon said. "It causes a toxic reaction and you get a headache." There are things you can do to help avoid that toxic reaction. Solomon suggested sticking to one type of alcohol – mixing just brings different impurities into play and increases the likelihood of a hangover. Cherish the old traditions, but allow for the new
New Year's Day is observed in many ways around the world. Gifts, firecrackers and hair-of-the-dog drinks are all popular. But more than anything else, the food you eat will determine your fortune in the following months. In many cultures a main course of pork is usually served because the pig is thought to be a forward-moving animal. In contrast, fowl is often avoided because it could cause your luck to fly away. In the southern states, dishes featuring black-eyed peas and collard greens are prominent. Some believe the green reflects the color of money, although serving greens is popular outside of the United States. In Scandinavian countries, kale is served sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. I agree. Many people put too much pressure on New Years resolutions and don't keep them as a result. You're much better off starting to work on your goals at any other time of year. Additionally, people are often not specific enough with goals, or the steps they need to take to achieve them. Okay I want to lose 10 pounds. Instead of that how about: I want to eat healthier or I want to hit the gym…   more ›
