Mayfield Wildcats to Take on East Tech in District Tournament

Tournament play begins on Monday

The Mayfield Wildcats are preparing for the Ohio State Boys Basketball Division I District Tournament. The boys have claimed the No. 10 seed in the Euclid district bracket. They'll begin the tournament with a faceoff against East Tech. Mayfield's game and all others in the bracket will take place at Euclid High School, 711 E. 222nd St., Euclid. Mayfield tips off at 5:30 p.m. If Mayfield wins, it will face No. 2 Glenville two days later at Euclid. The winner of the Euclid District tournament would play the winner of the Alliance District on March 13. The state championship will be played March 23 at the Jerome Schottenstein Center in Columbus.

Superintendent: 'Our Kids Earned Their Way onto the Playoff Field'

Mayfield Schools responds to the court decision that nearly put Mayfield's football team out of the playoffs

Editor's note: The following statement was issued by Mayfield Schools “Here’s the bottom line. Our kids earned their way onto the playoff field because they were selected by the Ohio High School Athletic Association based on their season record,” said Superintendent Keith Kelly. “The Wildcats, our athletes, our coaches, our parents have become collateral damage in a court ruling which, quite frankly, makes no sense. Mayfield earned its way onto the playoff field. We were invited to play by the OHSAA.” On October 28th OHSAA announced the names of the teams who would play in the Division 1 regional quarterfinals. Mayfield Wildcats Lose Big to Mentor Cardinals

Mentor Cardinals score 45 unanswered points in 45-14 rout

Mayfield's football team scored first Friday night. But Mentor scored second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth. The Cardinals scored 45 unanswered points in a 45-14 rout of the Mayfield Wildcats. A big reason Mentor ran away with the game was wide receiver Conner Krizancic. Krizancic ran for 38 yards and two touchdowns and caught three passes for 74 yards and another touchdown. Most of those touches and all of those touchdowns came in the first half. "Had we kept going to him in the second half, he would have had a career night," Mentor Head Coach Steven Trivisonno said of Krizancic.
