Mayfield Heights Gets New City Phone System

The city's current system is more than 20 years old

One could have given birth to a child and celebrated his or her high school and college graduations in the time that has passed since the City of Mayfield Heights bought a phone system. "What people don't realize is that the phone system we have is quite antiquated," Councilwoman Gayle Teresi said. "It's difficult to get parts and the other issue is that the wiring is in the basement of the old city hall, so that just adds to all of the problems we have with the phone system and the connectivity with the police and fire departments." That will all change now that the city has approved the purchase of a new VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) phone system. Buckle Up for a Free Sonic Burger

Cuyahoga County will kick off this year's "Click It Or Ticket" campaign.

For the second year, those who buckle up can be rewarded with a free burger for their safe behavior.  The Cuyahoga County kickoff of the national seat belt enforcement mobilization known as “Click It Or Ticket” takes place on Thursday, May 16 with a Buckle Up For Burgers event at area Sonic restaurants.  Between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., law enforcement officers will be on hand to pass out vouchers for free burgers to all vehicle occupants spotted wearing seat belts when entering the parking lots of Sonic’s Mayfield or Parma locations.  The “Click It Or Ticket” campaign is aimed at increasing seat belt usage numbers in Cuyahoga County, which lag far behind the national average. Mayfield Heights Council Schedules Organizational Meeting To Vote On New Officers

The meeting is slated for April 3 at Mayfield Heights City Hall

The Mayfield Heights City Council will elect its president and president pro tem during an organizational meeting at 5:30 p.m. April 3 at City Hall. Council will also choose its representatives for the Planning Commission and Mayfield Union Cemetery Board. Additionally, this will be the first meeting for Council's newest member, Robert DeJohn. Mayor Anthony DiCicco appointed DeJohn to Council earlier this month. DeJohn was not one of the final six candidates who interviewed for the vacancy that opened up after DiCicco replaced the previous mayor, Gregory Costabile, who resigned from the position. Mayfield Heights Accepting 'Gold Resident' Applications

The qualifying residents will be recognized at an event later this year

The City of Mayfield Heights is encouraging longtime residents to go for the gold. The city is accepting applications for "Gold Residents." To qualify, you must have lived in the city for at least 50 years. That information must also check out with Cuyahoga County property records. This year's Gold residents will be recognized at a ceremony in August. Applications must be submitted by May 24.  Click here to apply for Gold status in Mayfield Heights. Panera Drive-Through Scheduled for Spring

Panera Bread chose Mayfield Road as the location for the areas first drive-through.

 A representative for Panera Bread confirmed that the current cafe at Golden Gate Plaza will relocate to a new-construction building that will contain a drive-through in late May. “We are relocating to the freestanding building in Mayfield Heights to provide a drive-through to the East Side of Cleveland. We currently have three drive-through cafe's in the region in Alliance, North Ridgeville and Warren,” the representative confirmed in a phone interview with Patch. The future Mayfield Road location will offer the same menu as the other locations and all items on the menu will be available for pick-up at the drive-through window.
