Mayfield City Schools concluded its annual art show at Hillcrest Hospital last week, and posted a video with student and teacher interviews on the work. Mayfield Sets Deadline for Kindergarten Registration

April 15 is the last day parents can register their children for kindergarten.

The deadline for kindergarten registration is April 15 for Mayfield City Schools. Students preparing to enter kindergarten  are required to be five years old by the August 31 of the year they plan on starting kindergarten.  For children to be granted early entrance into kindergarten they will receive a multi-factored assessment to determine the appropriateness of early entrance.  This assessment would be conducted by the Mayfield City Schools. School Safety Reforms Central to President Obama’s Gun Control Proposal

The Mayfield City School District already has a number of the recommendations in place, officials say.

President Barack Obama presented a sweeping set of gun control recommendations on Wednesday, with many focused directly on increasing safety measures in schools. According to the Politics K-12 blog, the proposals signal a shift in federal priorities—the proposals ask for increases in school safety and mental health counseling funding, areas the administration has sought to cut in the budget in recent years. Mayfield Schools To Receive Casino Revenue This Month

The Mayfield school district and schools across the state will get a cut of the nearly $38 million in casino money designated for the schools.

School districts across Ohio will share a cut of nearly $38 million in casino revenue set to be distributed later this month, and Mayfield Schools will share in the action. The Plain Dealer reports that this will be the first revenue sharing with school districts since the first casinos opened in Ohio in May. That's when Cleveland's Horseshoe Casino opened. According to the Ohio Department of Taxation, Mayfield Schools are set to receive $82,790.70 at the end of the month. Casinos are taxed based on their revenues, and that money is divided up based on a formula between the state, counties, cities and school districts. Schools receive their money two times each year, in January and August, reports the Plain Dealer.

Mayfield City Schools Closed Tuesday, Oct. 30

Severe weather forces district to shutter.

Mayfield City Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Oct. 30 due to severe weather, the district announced on its web site late Monday. "Thank you for your patience & understanding," the district said in the post. "The safety of our students and staff is what drives this decision." Northeast Ohio was battered with high winds and rain on Tuesday. Many homes throughout the region were without power.

Want to Know How Mayfield Did on the State Report Cards? You’ll Have to Wait

The state Board of Education is holding off on the release of the report cards until an investigation is complete.

The release of Ohio’s school report cards will continue to be delayed while the state auditor investigates whether some districts manipulated attendance data. The state Board of Education on Tuesday decided to release some of the information to the public around the end of September, Ohio Department of Education Associate Director of Communications John Charlton said in an email. The data will not include attendance rates, performance index or overall ratings, and the board has not set a date to release the full report cards at this time. That means that Mayfield Heights parents won’t know if their local school is rated as “Excellent,” “Effective," "Continuous Improvement" or the like until much later in the school year. Celebrate Wildcat Park Today

Festivities kick off at 9 a.m. with a parade

Mayfield Heights will host a daylong celebration with the opening of Wildcat Park, the $36 million, three-year project that includes the renovation of the football stadium and athletic area behind Mayfield High School. The Pride of Mayfield marching band will lead the parade. Residents can enjoy refreshments, games, sporting events and prizes throughout the day and evening.
