Police Blotter: Wrong-Way Driver, a Brotherly Dispute and a Rude Neighbor

Police closed a portion of Interstate 271's northbound express lane Saturday morning after receiving a call regarding a driver traveling the wrong direction. The call came in at 1:35 a.m., and an officer soon stopped the vehicle. A semi-truck driver lost one of his two trailers because he swerved to avoid the southbound vehicle. A stretch of the express lane near the Lander Road bridge was closed for about 20 minutes. A Bonnie Lane woman told police on Saturday afternoon that her ex-husband had intentionally caused a motor vehicle crash between the two the previous night in Highland Heights. She added that she had received several voicemails and text messages from him since the collision. She said none of the incidents occurred in Mayfield…

Mayfield Road Exit Ramps are Source of Accidents

Right turns on red may no longer be allowed at the Interstate 271 exit ramps on Mayfield Road because of the number of accidents that have occurred. Sgt. Robert Bandelow of the Mayfield Heights Police Department said there have 69 accidents on the ramps this year, with only one resulting in an injury. He said most are slow-speed, rear-end crashes where the second car in line hits the car in front as they are looking over their left shoulder for oncoming traffic. "They're minor accidents, but you're still spending $1,000 whenever you replace your back bumper," Bandelow said. Bandelow said police noticed the problem when construction was completed on Mayfield.
