Millridge Pajama Drive a Success
The school's children collected hundreds of pajamas for those in need.
This week Millridge Elementary Teacher Kelly Sanelli will be dropping off 463 pairs of pajamas collected by the Millridge and MCHI students, staff and local businesses for those in need. With a matching donation from Carter's the total donation will be 926 pajamas. The campaign ended Nov. 19 and was primarily for the Hurricane Sandy victims. However, in light of an overwhelming response, the student's efforts may benefit Cleveland area families. “The Pajama Program is experiencing an overflow of pajama's in the East. So our donations will help others in need,” said Sanelli who was happy with the success of the drive. Overall Sanelli said the drive taught the children life lessons. “It opened their eyes. UPDATE: Bill Clinton Stumping for Obama in Akron Thursday
Clinton is set to step in while President Barack Obama continues to focus on Hurricane Sandy.
Updated Oct. 31, 11:45 p.m. Bill Clinton is coming to Akron on Thursday to rally support for President Barack Obama. The former President will stump for Obama at 6 p.m. Thursday at the John S. Knight Center, located at 77 E. Mill St. in Akron, reports the Akron Beacon Journal. Doors will open to the public at 4:30 p.m. Click here for tickets Clinton's forthcoming arrival comes a day after the cancellation of Obama's University of Akron rally. No Fatalities Or Injuries But Lots of Damage From Sandy
Updated: 5:30 p.m.: Portion of Chagrin River Road closed due to flooding.
Storm damage resulting from the superstorm Sandy has resulted in flooding, falling trees and power outages throughout the Mayfield-Hillcrest area, but no fatalities. The cities and villages provided their assessments of the damages earlier on Tuesday. Gates Mills The village reported no injuries, but a home on Riverview Road had its roof struck by a tree overnight, the police department said. Gates and Riverview Roads have been shut down because of downed power lines and trees, Lt. Ron Whitmer of the Gates Mills police department said. Obama Cancels University of Akron Rally
Due to the widespread damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, President Barack Obama has canceled Wednesday's Akron rally to focus on the storm.
President Barack Obama has canceled his campaign stop at the University of Akron on Wednesday. According to whitehouse.gov, the President will remain in Washington D.C. to monitor Hurricane Sandy, and help coordinate the federal response and relief effort. The Salvation Army and American Red Cross branches in Ohio and nationally are poised to provide aid to those who need it, and you can help them do it.
Ohio has already been affected by the FrankenStorm, also known as Hurricane Sandy, but our neighbors to the east are getting hit much worse. And if you're safe and sound at home, you may feel compelled to do something to help them. There are many ways to help, we're just featuring two options in this story: American Red Cross and Salvation Army. When the electricity goes out and people need shelter, it's usually the American Red Cross that sets up those shelters in schools, churches or community centers. They provide cots to sleep on, food and a safe place to rest. Sunday, the Red Cross had already set up 112 shelters in nine states. That's just the beginning. Hurricane Sandy: How East Coast Patches Are Covering the Storm
Northeast Ohio will feel some of Hurricane Sandy's wrath, but most of the damage is being done on the East Coast.
Hurricane Sandy hit ground in New York City late Sunday and into early Monday morning, according to Carroll Gardens Patch on the east coast of New York. And this isn't even the heaviest part of the storm. Nearly all of NYC is shut down, including press agencies, city schools and colleges, public transportation and more. Residents are experiencing steady rainfall and wind gusts are expected to get up to 65 miles an hour today. So how are the East Coast Patches handling the storm?
