Colleen Grossner finished the marathon and was headed back to her hotel as the explosions took place
Michael Grossner experienced nearly two hours of panic Monday after news broke about the explosions at the Boston Marathon. The Highland Heights resident's wife, Colleen, ran in the marathon, but he had not heard from her since websites, televisions and radios reported the explosions were claiming lives and causing injuries to participants and onlookers. By the early evening, he was relieved to learn that Colleen had finished the race about an hour before the explosions and was headed back to her hotel by the time they took place. "I was worried and all of her family was worried," he said. She was unable to make outgoing calls, but once she did, she assured him that she was doing fine. The program includes almost $700,000 worth of concrete and asphalt repairs
The Highland Heights City Council approved this year's road improvement program during its meeting Tuesday night at City Hall. The program, which council voted for unanimously, provides for $180,000 in concrete repairs and another $500,500 in asphalt repairs. The concrete repairs are slated for Aberdeen Boulevard, Brainard Road and the Canterbury neighborood, Service Director Thomas Evans said. Meanwhile, Stanwell and Pinehurst Roads are in line for the asphalt improvements. The next step in the process is the city engineer will prepare the specs for the projects. There will be magicians, an egg hunt and a visit from the Easter Bunny
Highland Heights will be hosting an Easter party for families from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on March 16 at the city's Community Center. The party will include fun crafts, an egg hunt, magic by Rick Smith Jr. and, naturally, a visit from the Easter Bunny. The event will happen rain, snow or shine. Children's tickets are $3 a piece. Adults and children younger than the age of 1 get in free. Advance purchase of tickets is required by March 13. Preston, the dog who ran from his owner nine days ago in a parking lot, is still on the loose, despite a couple confirmed sightings. "Confirmed sighting of Preston. In housing area behind Heinen's on 91(Som Center), off Wilson Mills Rd. About 30 minutes ago," read a Facebook post from Northeast Ohio Rescues, the group that helps find lost animals throughout the region. A police officer spotted the dog, according to the post. Another user in contact with the dog's owner said the mother saw him Monday on the side of Interstate 271 near the Lander Road overpass, but the dog again ran away. It's been nearly a week since Preston's owner was with him in a Highland Heights parking lot. According to his 'missing' listing on Northeast Ohio Rescues' Facebook page, Preston ran off from the parking lot of Kohl's and Home Depot about 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. The post said somebody spotted the dog on Monday in Alpha Park, but he ran off again. The dog is described as scared, shy and timid.
