Mayfield High's junior/senior prom is Saturday and we want to see your photos.
Prom is one of those events that just scream "photo op." All those proud parents taking photos of their quickly grown-up teens heading off to the big event. Whether a parent or participant, you can share your prom photos on Mayfield-Hillcrest Patch. After Mayfield High School's celebration on Saturday, post your prom and after prom photos by clicking on the "Upload Photos and Videos" link on this post. There's no limit on the number of photos you can add – the more the merrier. But you do need to be a member to post. However, it's free to sign up and we promise that doing so will not lead to a batch of emails.

Will play Mentor at 4:30 p.m. today.
Mayfield High defeated Willoughby South 4-2 on Wednesday to advance to the baseball Division I Euclid District final. The Wildcats, 22-4 on the season, took an early lead on Willoughby South with single runs in the first and second innings on a sacrifice fly by Larry Pinto and ground out by Justin Bonchek, respectively. Both came with the bases loaded and Mayfield threatened to put the game away. Still, that was enough to win behind a strong outing by starting pitcher Matt Iosue, who held Willoughby South hitless until the seventh and final inning. The district final will be at 4:30 p.m. against Mentor, which defeated Shaker Heights 3-0 on Wednesday.

First-graders at Millridge Elementary assist with project.
Lions Clubs worldwide were busy planting trees in April in recognition of Earth Day and Highland Heights members figured a school would be a good place for a local contribution. Larry Nudelman, secretary of the Highland Heights Lions Club said the idea was to involve first-graders in the project so the students can learn about trees and follow the progress of the four white pines that were planted on Friday. "They can see it for the next five years that they're here and they can come back while they're in high school," he said. Club member Jeanette Evans used the opportunity to talk to Millridge Elementary School's four first-grade classes about the importance of trees. "We get our oxygen from the trees," she told the students, who eagerly…

It felt more like winter than spring this monring as Mayfield Village hosted its annual Arbor Day tree planting ceremony. Green space just north of the fire station on SOM Center Road was selected for this year's tree, a little leaf linden planted with assistance from second-graders at nearby Center School. Douglas Metzung, village service director, gave the students a quick lesson about Arbor Day, which was founded by J. Sterling Morton, a journalist from Detroit who moved to Nebraska. "He discovered the importance of planting trees," Metzung said, adding that trees also represent future growth. "We're not looking back, we're looking to the future." Information supplied by the Gates Mills Police Department.
Police received complaints Saturday morning of open burning taking place on Foxhill Drive. Officers were dispatched to the area for further investigation following the 8:13 a.m. call. That led to Gates Mills Fire Chief Thomas Robinson advising the property owner to stop the burning until obtaining the necessary permits from the village. A Woodstock Road resident called police at 9:28 p.m. Thursday to report receiving threatening phone calls from his ex-wife. After speaking with an officer, the man decided not to pursue criminal charges. He stated he only wanted police to document the complaint for future reference. Police responded to a motor vehicle crash Thursday evening at the intersection of Cedar and SOM Center soads. The crash, …

Visitors flock Beachwood Community Center for eco-friendly business expo
This year's Green Dream eco-friendly business expo looks to be the biggest ever. Beachwood High School student Courtney Fishman was counting attendees for just two hours at the beginning of the event and said she saw 1,500 people - and there were four hours to go. More exhibitors - 133 - were there than ever before, and the outdoor health and wellness tent was expanded by 60 feet to hold the extra vendors. Six food trucks lined up outside, forming a food court. "I think it's fantastic. Definitely worthwhile to attend," said Karen Shoemaker, branch manager of the Beachwood Dollar Bank. "I'm really impressed with the leadership skills and the impression that they give." The Green Dream students were giddy toward the end of the event. "I've …
