Police Respond to Multi-Car Crashes: Gates Mills Blotter

The following information was supplied by the Gates Mills Police Department

Crash in school parking lot: Gates Mills Police responded to a three-car crash in the parking lot of St. Francis of Assisi School. The crash took place just after 8 a.m. Nobody was injured, but one of the drivers, a 50-year-old woman from Gates Mills, was cited for reckless operation on private property. Four-car crash: Police received a report just before 4 p.m. on May 16 of a crash involving four cars on Mayfield Road. This crash also had no injuries. Police cited a 40-year-old Rome resident for failing to maintain an assured clear distance ahead. What's that sound?: A Dorchester Road resident called police at 10:02 p.m. on May 16, worried about a noise coming from her roof. The noise was loud enough that the woman believed a person was …

Authorities Looking for Fugitive Wanted for Murder During Dice Game

The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force is offering a reward for information which would lead to the capture of fugitive Demetrice Cannon.

Demetrice Cannon, 28, is wanted by the U.S. Marshals and the Cleveland Police for aggravated murder. It is alleged that Cannon shot and killed a man after an argument during a dice game, according to a press release. The incident took place earlier this month on May 2. Cannon is a black male standing approximately 5’05” and weighing 150 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. Cannon is suspected to be hiding out somewhere in the Cleveland area. He also had a previous address near the 1200 block of E. 80th St. in Cleveland. The man arrived at the police station just after 4 a.m. Westlake police found him to be under the influence and he was arrested for drunk driving as well. Buckle Up for a Free Sonic Burger

Cuyahoga County will kick off this year's "Click It Or Ticket" campaign.

For the second year, those who buckle up can be rewarded with a free burger for their safe behavior.  The Cuyahoga County kickoff of the national seat belt enforcement mobilization known as “Click It Or Ticket” takes place on Thursday, May 16 with a Buckle Up For Burgers event at area Sonic restaurants.  Between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., law enforcement officers will be on hand to pass out vouchers for free burgers to all vehicle occupants spotted wearing seat belts when entering the parking lots of Sonic’s Mayfield or Parma locations.  The “Click It Or Ticket” campaign is aimed at increasing seat belt usage numbers in Cuyahoga County, which lag far behind the national average. Drunken Driving Checkpoint Planned This Week

The county where the checkpoint will be set up will not be announced until the day prior to the operation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol sent out a press release Monday morning notifying the public that state troopers will conduct a drunken driving checkpoint sometime this week.  The county where the checkpoint will be set up will be announced the day before and the exact location will be announced the morning of the checkpoint.  "If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Don't let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired," the patrol said in a prepared statement.  Additional support for the checkpoint will be provided by local law enforcement agencies. Honoring Mayfield Heights' Seargent Gregory Michl

Sgt. Gregory Michl lost his battle with cancer in 2011. Patch honors his memory for Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Mayfield Heights lost a proud and loyal member of its safety forces on March 6, 2011. Sergeant Gregory J. Michl fought a courageous and inspirational battle against cancer working throughout his treatment. Patch honors his memory for Peace Officers Memorial Day.  He began working for the Mayfield Heights Police Department on March 4, 1990. He was appointed to the Traffic Bureau on April 27, 1994, promoted to the rank of Sergeant on August 27, 1999, and proudly served Mayfield Heights until March 4, 2011. Michl established the highly successful Juvenile Diversion program, revamped the Auxiliary Unit, worked as the School Resource Officer at the Mayfield Middle School, and was a member of the SPAN Traffic Unit. Hot Air Balloon Drops in on Chagrin River Resident: Gates Mills Police Blotter

Hot-air visit: A Chagrin River Road resident had no intention of hosting a landing on May 6, so she was shocked to see a hot air balloon descend on her lawn around 8:23 p.m. The woman called Gates Mills Police to report the surprise landing. An officer spoke with the balloonist, who said he had to make an emergency landing because of changing winds and impending darkness. The balloon was soon removed from the caller's property. Cell-phone fraud: A Sugarbush Lane resident visited the Gates Mills Police station at 3:11 p.m. on May 7 to report a fraud involving his cell phone.  The man said an unknown person somehow gained access to his cell phone account and then used the account to make a purchase. The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force is offering a reward for information which would lead to the capture of fugitive Dontez White.

Dontez White is wanted by the U.S. Marshals and the Lakewood Police for drug trafficking and firearms offenses, according to Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. White, 38, has a significant criminal history, officials said, and should be considered armed and dangerous. White is a black male standing approximately 5’06” and weighing 400 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. White is suspected to be hiding out somewhere in the Cleveland area. He also had a previous address near the 600 block of Willow Dr. in Euclid. Drunk Man Falls Off Bike at Mayfield-Lander: Police Blotter

Rock throwers: Police responded to a call at 9:19 p.m. May 4 regarding a group of teens believed to be causing trouble. According to the police report, four teenage girls were walking south on Fruitland Avenue and seen picking up rocks and decorations from home yards and throwing them into the street. The caller said they were loud and using foul language. The girls were walking towards Marsol, the caller said, but the police were unable to locate the group. Drunk on a bike: Mayfield Heights Police traveled to the intersection of Mayfield and Lander roads at 9:21 p.m. May 4 to check on a man a caller said was highly intoxicated on while riding his bike.
