Cuyahoga County will kick off this year's "Click It Or Ticket" campaign.
For the second year, those who buckle up can be rewarded with a free burger for their safe behavior. The Cuyahoga County kickoff of the national seat belt enforcement mobilization known as “Click It Or Ticket” takes place on Thursday, May 16 with a Buckle Up For Burgers event at area Sonic restaurants. Between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., law enforcement officers will be on hand to pass out vouchers for free burgers to all vehicle occupants spotted wearing seat belts when entering the parking lots of Sonic’s Mayfield or Parma locations. The “Click It Or Ticket” campaign is aimed at increasing seat belt usage numbers in Cuyahoga County, which lag far behind the national average. Film starring Kevin Costner has scene at Lakeshore Dance and Gymnastics Studio
A Mayfield Village business and a few area gymnasts got a taste of Hollywood earlier this week. Crews filmed a scene of Draft Day, starring Kevin Costner, Monday at Lakeshore Dance and Gymnastics Studio on Beta Drive. In the scene, Costner, who plays a fictional general manager of the Cleveland Browns, brings a player to a dance studio. According to the film's IMDB page, the film follows Costner's character as he tries to secure the No. 1 draft pick for the Browns. The film will be released in 2014. Mayfield officials hope Rochester, N.Y.-based Morgan Communities' acquisition of Marsol will lead to fewer reported crimes there
Though fights, thefts and other crimes at Marsol Towers continue to fill the Mayfield Heights Police log, city officials are hopeful for a safer future. Residents of the six-building apartment campus on Marsol Road recently received letters discussing a change in ownership. Willoughby-based K&D Group has sold the property to Morgan Properties, a firm in Rochester, N.Y. that manages and operates apartments in 10 states. "This company will be doing some house cleaning with regard to the suites and any problem tenants that they have in the complex," Mayfield Heights Councilwoman Gayle Teresi said. "I was very excited to hear that." The company's website now offers visitors the opportunity to explore and apply for leases at Marsol. …

The Ohio State Highway Patrol sent out a press release Monday morning notifying the public that state troopers will conduct a drunken driving checkpoint sometime this week. The county where the checkpoint will be set up will be announced the day before and the exact location will be announced the morning of the checkpoint. "If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Don't let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired," the patrol said in a prepared statement. Michl fought a courageous and inspirational battle against cancer working throughout his treatment. Patch honors his memory for Peace Officers Memorial Day. He began working for the Mayfield Heights Police Department on March 4, 1990. He was appointed to the Traffic Bureau on April 27, 1994, promoted to the rank of Sergeant on August 27, 1999, and proudly served Mayfield Heights until March 4, 2011.
