The game had also been scheduled for May 13, but was canceled due to rain.

The event was created by Gilmour assistant coach Kristy Booher to show support for fellow assistant Mandy Hansen’s 7-year old son Michael, who is autistic. Proceeds from the sale of Swing for a Solution apparel will be donated to the nonprofit organization Autism Speaks.

So far, about 250 items have been purchased. The participating teams have numbers on the sleeves of their shirts, which will be worn for the Swing for a Solution games on May 5 and May 11.

Concession stands will also be open at each of the games selling drinks and bagged snacks. There is no price on any item, just a donation of one’s choosing with 100 percent of the money to be donated to Autism Speaks. All food and beverage items have been donated by Mel Weltle and AVI – the company responsible for Gilmour’s food service.

“I’m very fortunate to be able to work and coach at a place where the students, staff, faculty and administration are so supportive,” said Booher.  “Gilmour believes in serving others, and because of that, the community here has really embraced this event.”
