MobilePack Will Make 100,000 Lunches At Cornerstone Community Church

Food will be packed by 500 and sent to more than 70 countries in partnership with Feed My Starving Children

Pastor Ed Fedor wants to help reduce world hunger, and he’s going about it in a big way.

He and nearly 500 other volunteers will spend this weekend packing 100,000 lunches for malnourished children across the globe.

“It’s a great chance to be part of something bigger than yourself,” said Fedor, of Cornerstone Community Church, which will sponsor the “MobilePack” event on Friday and Saturday.

The church is partnering up with Feed My Starving Children, a non-profit organization that will be sponsoring MobilePacks throughout the country.

Over the course of four, two-hour shifts, one volunteer will pack roughly 200 lunches, with the goal of reaching 100,000.

“People can leave knowing they helped contribute to [solving] the world hunger crisis,” said Stephen Ellsesser, member of the church’s marketing committee.

At 22 cents per meal, the church has to raise $22,000 to pay for all the food. Roughly $21,000 has been raised with one week left, Fedor said.

Each meal is a mix of dehydrated chicken, rice and soy and will be shipped to more than 70 countries, he said.

Being mindful of this country’s own hunger issues, the church will also host a canned food drive, Ellsesser said. People can drop food off at the church or the nearest Home Savings & Loan Company.

People can still register at the church’s website to volunteer as there are some spots left.

Shifts run on Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

“It’s a chance to help other’s out,” Ellsesser said. “Service is good for the heart and good for the soul.”
