Critter Corner: Going to Camp is not Just for Kids

Parents send their kids to camp for many reasons; from broadening experiences and socialization to having them stay in a safe environment while they are at work. Doggie “kids” are no different. Sometimes they get board and lonely at home by themselves, other times their people need to travel and leave them in secure hands.
in Highland Heights fills those needs for many area two and four-footed residents.  Ask Amy Ryan, camp owner and all-around dog person, and she will describe a local camp experience that is climate controlled, separated by size and temperament, and supervised by certified camp councilors.

Unlike Allan Sherman’s classic camp song “Hello muddah, hello faddah-Here I am at Camp Granada” where the parents are left guessing as to their son’s experience, you can monitor your pup’s actions on-line. There are outdoor and indoor play areas, sleeping “cabins”, snacks and lights out bedtime hour.

At all camp, there are rules: prospective campers come in for a several hour-long free socialization interview, must be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on shots. Ryan says prospective campers can be interviewed any time except for half-price day.

There may not be finger painting or canoeing at Camp Bow Wow, but the doggie campers seem to enjoy it all the more.
