5 Things You Should Know For This Week

The summer season heats up with city celebrations and recreational events

1. Mayfield Heights Community Unity Days, Thursday through Sunday: Food, fireworks and family fun activities are scheduled for one of the biggest community events of the year. Former Cleveland Browns running back Greg Pruitt will be the grand marshal for the parade that begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Click here for the total schedule.

2. Summer Sports Series, Cleveland Cavaliers, Thursday, 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.: Cavaliers coach Byron Scott headlines a round-table discussion on the team in the final edition of the Summer Sports Series at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven. Click here to learn more.

3. Blue Lunch Band, Thursday, 7-9 p.m.: The Friends of the Mayfield Branch Library are sponsoring this concert at the Mayfield Village gazebo. They will also host their annual ice cream social at the concert.

4. Council Caucus Meeting, Mayfield Village, Today, 8-9 p.m.:  Council will discuss bids for the Highland Rd. sidewalk and bid results for the senior snow removal program. Here’s the agenda.

5. Household hazardous waste round-up, Today to Saturday: Highland Heights residents can continue to bring unwanted pesticides, household chemicals and oil-based paints to the Service Department between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The round-up concludes Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon.
