Mayfield's Dave Diebolt Ranked in Plain Dealer's All-Time Area Football Players List

Diebolt, a linebacker and tight end, is ranked No. 45.

A Mayfield High School legend has been named to the Plain Dealer's ranking of the top 50 Northeast Ohio football players of all time.

The paper began the week by revealing players 41-50. Dave Diebolt, a 1987 Mayfield graduate, was ranked No. 45. He played tight end and linebacker.

"Very hard hitting linebacker, with great hands. One of the better tight ends to come out of this area," Jerry Sulecki, a former high school referee and part of the newspaper's selection committee, said of Diebolt.

Diebolt was an all-state Parade Magazine prep All-America selection who went on to play tight end at Michigan.
