Mayfield Loses to Willoughy South 42-41 in Overtime

The Wildcats lost on a failed two-point conversion attempt in a thrilling game.

A failed two-point conversion prevented the Mayfield Wildcats from getting their first football victory of the year.

Willoughby South's defense stuffed running back Anthony Canganelli at the 1-yard line in overtime, and the Wildcats fell to the Rebels, 42-41. Mayfield is 0-2 on the season.

"The kids never quit," coach Larry Pinto told The News-Herald. "They kept scratching and fighting and clawing. We're going to win some games. We lost to two pretty good teams, and we had one on the ropes here.

"We've just got to find a way to finish."

Mayfield travels to Olmsted Falls next Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
