Mayfield lost its home opener, 55-35, according to coverage from Cleveland.com.
The home team was down 39-14 in the third quarter before putting up a 21-7 run with five minutes left in the game. However, Nordonia closed out the game with a 34-yard touchdown run by Alex Alders.
Mayfield quarterback Mario Monastero scored on a 41-yard touchdown run and a 65-yard pass to Ryan Bailey during the comeback attempt.
Mayfield faces Willoughby South at home next week.
