Seven football players from schools in the Mayfield-Hillcrest put on the pads one more time this weekend for the News-Herald Senior Bowl, played at Jerome T. Osborne stadium in Mentor.

The white team, which featured three all-stars from Mayfield High School, beat the blue squad, 13-0. Mayfield's Drazen Markovic split time at quarterback, running plenty of keepers and complimenting a running game led by Euclid's Juwan Ford. Ford was the MVP with 134 yards on 24 carries.

The white defense had a disruptive evening, forcing three turnovers. Mayfield's Dylan Loew rotated in at defensive end as part of a dominant line that got after blue quarterbacks all night.

The game was called off with about three minutes remaining when Euclid's McKenny Mitchell went down with a severe leg injury. He was the blocking back who led the way for Ford's two touchdowns.

Here are the players from the area who participated (Mayfield players were on the white team, while Gilmour and Hawken players were on the blue):

  • Benoit Mapango, running back/defensive back, Gilmour
  • Keniv Sonnhaulter, offensive line/defensive line, Gilmour
  • Joe Marabito, offensive line/defensive line, Hawken
  • Mark Murgiano, wide receiver/defensive back, Hawken
  • Drazen Markovic, quarterback, Mayfield
  • John Mangelluzzi, wide receiver, Mayfield
  • Dylan Loew, offensive line/defensive line
