Football Roundup: Hawken & Gilmour Trounce Opponents, Mayfield Falls

Gilmour and Hawken put up 34 and 60 points, respectively, in their games.

Here's a look at how the three high school football teams in the Mayfield-Hillcrest area performed Friday nights:

  • Gilmour traveled to Grand Valley and won, 34-6. The team was powered by quarterback Matt Botek's passing attack. He completed 11 of 20 passes for 227 yards and five touchdowns. The team is 4-1 on the year.
  • Hawken put up 60 points in a game that was never in doubt. The team beat Newbury 60-8. Running back Khari Anderson amassed 202 yards on just 11 carries. He scored four times, while fullback Josh Walters added two more scores. Hawken is 2-3 on the season.
  • Mayfield fell to Elyria, 38-28. Quarterback Mario Monastero threw for 323 yards and three touchdowns, but added two costly interceptions. The team fell to 2-3.
