Part 2 – Getting Started:

I went to the Board of Elections (BOE), to get the paperwork started and to get registered. Wonderfully nice people work there, all helpful and patient. I got my instructions on what I needed to do, the things I should do, and the things I was NOT allowed to do.

To get on the ballot, a potential candidate needs to gather signatures of registered voters, about 2% of the votes from the previous election. Being elected to a Council at Large seat, and there are three in total, means I represent the entire City of Highland Heights. This translated into a minimum of 106 signatures, versus the 27± required for one of the 4 Wards we have.

These are BOE verified signatures, so it was recommended that I gather upward of 150, in case some folks who thought they were registered weren’t, or their signature didn’t match what was on record at the BOE.

I had my ideas, it was time to ‘hit the streets’, meet the citizens and start gathering signatures!
