Wildcat Park Projected Reviewed in Mayfield Village Tonight

Architectural Review Board has special meeting at 7:30 p.m.

The Architectural Review Board will have a special meeting at 7:30 tonight to discuss the Wildcat Park project at .

Plans for the Wildcat Park stadium and athletic area renovations were reviewed by the ARB on Dec. 22, but approval could not be given because only two of five members were present. A special meeting was called because school officials planned to go out to bid for the project on Thursday.

Much of the discussion on Dec. 22 centered on the proposed 110-foot light poles and the gray color planned for the buildings containing the concession stand, restrooms and ticket booth.

The light poles at the stadium are 80 to 85 feet high. Jeff Henderson of ThenDesign Architecture, who attended the meeting along with district Director of Building Services John Folkman, said higher light poles would not add to the light in nearby yards.

"It doesn't get any brighter for residents. I don't think they'll mind," added John Marrelli, village building commissioner. "They're raising the lights to angle them down better, kind of like a street light with a shield on it."

The gray wall by the concession stand area was more of a problem, at least for ARB Chairman Ron Dinardo, who thought it looked dreary and preferred incorporating green into the material being used.

However, Henderson said that might not look good because the gray was chosen to match the south side of the high school and a minor change in the color palette might not look good.

"It looks like you were trying to match it," he said.

Dinardo suggested that architects get some color samples that will be presented at tonight's meeting.

In addition to new light poles and the concession stand area, the first phase of the Wildcat Park project will feature a new seating area on the home side of the stadium, with seating for 2,500 that will include seats in the middle section and bleachers on the sides.

Similar improvements on the visitor's side and a plaza area are planned for future phases and are dependent on funding.
