Middle School's Public Safety Day Cancelled

Showers and a possible thunderstorm Thursday caused officials to cancel the event

The Public Safety Day scheduled to take place Thursday at Mayfield Middle School has been cancelled.

Fourteen area and regional safety force departments were scheduled to take part in the event for National Preparedness Month, but officials cancelled it because of Thursday's forecast. According to the National Weather Service, showers are likely in Mayfield Heights, along with a possible thunderstorm before 2 p.m.

Police, fire, SWAT and HAZMAT departments and a Metro LifeFlight helicopter were all scheduled to be at the outdoor event for students, grades four to eight.

Mayfield City Schools spokeswoman Laurie Uhlir said the event has not been rescheduled at this time.
