Mayfield Schools State Report Card Released to Public

District met all 26 indicators, earned 'excellent with distinction' status

The Ohio Department of Education released its state reports cards today and the achieved the top honor of "excellent with distinction" for the third consecutive year.

Also, the district's performance index increased to 102.2 from 101.6 last year. The index is a weighted scale from zero to 120 that assigns points based on student tests in grades three to eight and the 10th-grade Ohio Graduation Tests.

The district again met all 26 state indicators, which include meeting the goals of 75 percent proficient in achievement tests for third to eighth grades, 85 percent of the Ohio Graduation Test, 90 percent graduation rate and 93 percent attendance rate.

Overall, Ohio students met the state goal on 17 of 26 indicators, one less than last year. The statewide performance index went up 1.7 points to 95.

Most of Mayfield's achievement test scores in grades three to eight – nine of 14 categories – were at 85 percent or more proficient. The only ones that were below 80 percent were fifth grade math (78.0 percent) and eighth grade science (76.5 percent).

Other statistics from the state report card:

• 35.6 percent of graduates took the SAT test, with an mean score of 1,106

• 77.8 percent of graduates took the ACT test, with an mean score of 23

• Total number of graduates for 2009-2010 was 320

• Graduation rate for 2009-2010 was 95.2 percent

• The four-year on-time graduation rate was 89.5 percent

• 34.1 percent of graduates earned honors diplomas

• Attendance was 95.2 percent

• Top marks were in 11th grade reading and writing, both with 97.8 percent of students achieving proficiency
