Mayfield Schools Present Construction Update

Work at middle school, Millridge and Center scheduled to be completed before fall

Preparations are under way for a new parking area outside Mayfield Middle School as part of the district's construction projects.

That was one of the highlights of a construction update presented at a recent school board meeting at the request of Mayfield City School District Superintendent Dr. Phillip Price.

"As you can see, there's a lot happening in your district," said Jeff Adams of Hammond Construction.

Center and Millridge elementary schools are each adding a new multipurpose room/cafeteria. Adams said an underground storm system was recently completed at Center, while the playground at Millridge was moved to make room for the addition. He said walls are about 75 percent completed for that addition and the next step will be to install the roof.

He said work will be done this summer to add security features at the entrances of all three buildings undergoing renovations.

Mayfield Middle School is seeing the bulk of the construction work, with a three-story classroom addition that will allow eighth-graders to move back from the high school.

Adams said tennis courts were removed and trees are being cut down to prepare for the new parking area.

"You're starting to see mass quantities of dirt being moved," he said.

He said work on gas lines was completed over the Easter weekend, and "to the kids' dismay" the school did not have to be closed to get that job finished.

Interior renovations are taking place on parts of the building not in use, such as the stage area. Next, people will see foundations set for the three additions – the entrance, offices and the three-story classroom space.

He added that TDA Architecture has finalized designs for work at Mayfield High School and that bids for the construction will be sought this summer.
