Mayfield School Board Meeting to Consider Levy

A 5.9 mill operating/permanent improvement issue may be on March ballot.

The Board of Education will meet at 12:15 p.m. Thursday to discuss placing a 5.9 mill levy on the March 6 ballot.

The 5.9 mill levy would include 5.4 mills for operating expenses and 0.5 mills for permanent capital expenses such as technology. The district's last levy, a 6.9 mill combination of operating and capital funding, was approved in 2008.

That levy was expected to last three years, but the district decided last January to wait another year before making a levy request. Officials said a two-year pay freeze and $2.5 million in budget cuts made it possible to stretch the last levy another year.

The 5.9 mill levy would cost homeowners $180.68 annually for each $100,000 of property valuation.
