Mayfield High Wins District Baseball Title
Wildcats defeated Mentor 5-4 to reach state final 16.
Junior outfielder Mitch Longo drove in four runs, including two on a game-winning triple in the bottom on the fifth inning, as defeated Mentor 5-4 to win the Euclid District in the Division I state baseball tournament.
The Wildcats are scheduled to face Chardon, winner of the Struthers District, at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 24 at Thurman Munson Stadium in Canton.
Senior Drew Teller pitched all seven innings for the Wildcats, now 23-4 for the season. After taking a 1-0 lead in the first, Mayfield fell behind 4-1 before rallying with a pair of runs in the fourth, followed by another two an inning later on the Longo triple.
