Mayfield High Stadium Renovation Plans Ready for Approval

Planning & Zoning Commission vote scheduled for Feb. 6.

Plans for the first phase of the Wildcat Park Project at will come up for a Planning & Zoning Commission vote on Feb. 6.

Ground is expected to be broken this spring on the first phase, which involves replacement of the bleachers, concession stands, ticket booth and restrooms on the home side of the stadium.

At a recent commission planning session, architect Jeff Henderson of ThenDesign Architecture said that the home bleachers will be demolished and replaced with new bleachers and a center section with about 500 seats. Total seating on the home side will still be 2,500.

"The bleachers are actually going to be a bit wider then they are now," Henderson said. "There isn't adequate handicapped access."

Henderson added that the intent is to replace the 1,000-seat visitor's side in a later phase of the Wildcat Park project.

Plans also call for moving the veteran's memorial in back of the high school. Tennis courts are being removed and will not be replaced, Henderson added.

"All of the teams play at Highland Heights now," he said.

Building Commissioner John Marrelli said the renovations are not changing the use of the property, so there is no need for a public hearing regarding the special use permit the district received for the property.
