Mayfield High School Student Earns Perfect ACT Score

Joseph El-Hage hopes to major in investment banking or actuarial sciences

Joseph El-Hage became the second student of Mayfield High School Class of 2014 to achieve a perfect score on his ACT.

Despite taking practice tests and attending study sessions since 7th grade, the incoming senior was still apprehensive about taking the test.

“I was kind of nervous because I took it on June 8, the last one before senior year, and the next one would have had to be taken around the time to apply for college,” El-Hage said.

But when he found out he had aced the college entrance exam with a score of 36, all his worry went away.

“I was very happy,” he said. “I texted all my friends and called my mom and we went to dinner to celebrate.”

El-Hage joins classmate Tom Milyo in sharing the perfect score.

Though El-Hage had to take the test by himself, he credits the people in his life for his success.

“I thank my parents and teachers for introducing me to new ideas and views and always pushing me.”

During the school year, El-Hage is an active member of National Honor Society, Key Club, Math Club and German Club.

After high school, El-Hage has his eye on Yale University, Harvard University, Oberlin College, Case Western Reserve University and Columbia University, but nothing is set in stone, he said.

El-Hage hopes to pursue a major in investment banking or actuarial sciences.
