Mayfield High Concert Benefits Kim Yirga Scholarship Fund

Evolution, the Marzano's will perform.

students will honor the memory of a teacher who died last summer with a fundraising concert at 7 p.m. Thursday in the school auditorium.

Vittorio Valletta, a junior, is lead singer and guitarist with the band Evolution and decided to raise money for the Kim Yirga Scholarship Fund through a concert.

"She was his teacher and he wondered what we can do. He came up with the idea," his mother, Margaret Valletta, said.

In addition to Vittorio, Evolution is comprised of senior Nick CiCesare on drums, sophomore Christina DiFranco on vocals and keyboards and freshman Roberto Valletta on bass. Senior Nick DiFranco also is a member, but will not be performing on Thursday.

English teacher Nicholas Somich formed the Marzano's, a band of teachers who will "open" the show for the students. Tickets are $7 and will be sold at the door.

Yirga taught science at Mayfield High for 12 years.
