Mayfield High After Prom Open to Public for Viewing

Carnival Madness features games, prizes and performers.

2012 After Prom, "Carnival Madness," will be open for public viewing from 8-10 p.m. Saturday, May 19.

"Anyone who wants to can come in and take a look at what we've created," said Diane Snider, who is co-chairing the event along with Pam Lackner.

"We're going to have a midway with games, stilt walkers, jugglers, magicians. We have a guy who guesses your weight. There are going to be all kinds of carnival games. We'll also have a casino night. They can play blackjack and other games and win play money they can use for prizes."

Prizes will include a Kindle and flatscreen TVs. Snider said many prizes have been donated by area businesses.

"So many merchants in the area have donated stuff," she said. "There are a lot of things they can take with them to college next year."

She said that the value of the prizes given away to the 500 students who attended last year was about $7,000. Tickets for the After Prom are $15, which includes food and prizes.

Snider said the purpose of the event really hits home when she sees the wrecked car in front of the school to remind students about the dangers of drinking and driving.

"It sends chill bumps down by spine," she said. "This is why I've put countless hours into the After Prom."
