Mayfield Heights Wal-Mart Hosts Benefit for Animal Rescue Group

Pet toys to be sold from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 17.

Student-produced pet toys will be sold from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at , 6594 Mayfield Rd., Mayfield Heights, to raise money for Marilyn's Voice, a local animal rescue group.

As part of a lesson in economics and animal welfare, students at Sunview Elementary School in Lyndhurst made braided pull and ball toys, cat teasers and pet scarves using fleece, tennis balls, chopsticks and yarn.

In order to purchase needed materials, students were required to get a loan from their banker, the school principal. To get the loan, they used collateral such as shoveling snow.

All profits from the sale will benefit Marilyn's Voice, a nonprofit organization that rescues dogs from puppy mills and also takes in other abused and abandoned dogs. Funds raised are used for veterinarian bills and care.
