Listen to Mayfield Student's Black History Month Radio Spot

Sixth grader Trenton Lam is featured in a statewide radio advertisement after winning an Ohio Education Association contest for best essay on Black History Month

Of all the statewide entries in the Ohio Education Association's Black History Month essay contest, a student from Mayfield claimed the top spot.

Sixth grader Trenton Lam won the contest for his essay on Harriet Tubman, the woman known for helping slaves find a way to freedom via the Underground Railroad.

As a result of Trenton's victory, he recorded a brief radio spot with OEA president Patricia Frost-Brook in which he read an excerpt from his essay and encouraged schools to continue celebrating Black History Month.
