Gilmour Academy Volleyball Player to Attend St. Francis

Maria Cup was a three-year member of Lancer program.

senior Maria Cup of Chesterland signed a NCAA letter of intent to play Division I volleyball at St. Francis University in Pennsylvania.

Cup was the middle hitter for Gilmour this season and received All-District Honorable Mention and Third-Team All-Ohio honors. The Lancers had a 26-3 record and made it to the Division III championship game for the third time in four years.

Cup said she wanted to play for a Division I school and chose St. Francis for its physical therapy and volleyball program. She said her experience at Gilmour prepared her for the next level.

"Gilmour's classes and curriculum are very demanding and require dedication to the work and mastery of the subject matter in each class. It's outcome of being a life-long learner emphasizes the importance of everything you learn and taking advantage of any information you can learn. This is something that has particularly helped me prepare for college," said Cup. "In terms of volleyball, my coach, as well as the team, have helped me develop as a leader. Over the four years at Gilmour, the coaching staff has helped me to improve my skills and become a better all around volleyball player as well as preparing me to compete at a high level of play."
