Aspiring Mayfield Area Actors Loosen Up In Cleveland Play House Program

The program gives students a glimpse into the Cleveland Playhouse College program.

Monologues and the ins and outs of the playwriting process are key parts of ongoing instruction of the week-long Cleveland Play House College residency at Gates Mills Library.

However, those parts aren't necessarily the ones that produce the most laughter from the participants from Mayfield area schools. That distinction goes to the phonetic gymnastics Play House teaching artist Nina Domingue puts the teenagers through.

It was obvious most in the room had never uttered much about "Peter Piper, the pickled pepper picker," but they had fun doing it.

Domingue has been visiting libraries across the region to give high schoolers a glimpse into Play House College, a year-long program during CPH's mainstage season that exposes students to professional theater, set design and more.

"Anybody who is into acting is learning lots of valuable information while learning to interact and trust others," children's librarian Wendy Charney said of the program.
