Temporary Appointment Made in 98th Ohio House District

Mary Brigid Matheney will serve until sometime in March.

Speaker of the Ohio House William G. Batchelder announced that Geauga County Assistant Prosecutor Mary Brigid Matheney has been appointed to the 98th Ohio House District seat, which was vacated when Richard Hollington became mayor of Hunting Valley.

"The House Republican Caucus is delighted that Mrs. Matheney will be the newest member of the Ohio House," Batchelder said. "She has a true passion for public service and has deep roots in her community that will serve the residents of the 98th House District well. I look forward to working with her during this interim period."

She will serve until sometime in March, when the winner of the 76th District Republican primary will be appointed to the position. When boundaries change in 2013, the new 76th District will include Geauga County, which is part of the current 98th District.

However, , , and a portion of are in the 98th District but will no longer be in the same district with Geauga County in 2013.

Gates Mills, Highland Heights and Mayfield Village will belong to the 6th District – Democrat Anthony Fossaceca and Republican Marlene Anielski are seeking that seat. Mayfield Heights will be in the 12th District. Democrat John E. Barnes Jr. is running for that position.

Matheney, a resident of Bainbridge, has been an assistant prosecuting attorney since 2006 and is a graduate of the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. She also served three years as a law clerk for Judge Michael J. Corrigan of the 8th District Court of Appeals.
