Mayfield Village Swears in K-9 Officer

Leo, a 15-month German Shepherd, was one of three officers sworn in at the village council meeting

Mayfield Village Council President Bill Buchholtz knew exactly why the regular meeting Monday night was packed 10 minutes before it commenced.

"Council can't draw flies, but throw in an animal act and they'll come," he joked before the law director swore in Leo, a 15-month K-9 officer originally from.

Leo will be working with another new addition, Chris Cross. The two trained for eight weeks in the Excel K-9 Services program. They are certified through the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy and The Northern American Police Work Dog Association.
