Mayfield Village Sets Programs for Grove Amphitheatre

The Grove is only in Phase I, but officials have scheduled three programs and open house there, beginning this summer

Mayfield Village residents will get a feel for having an amphitheatre in their community this summer when programming at The Grove begins.

The Grove, on SOM Center Road, north of Parkview Pool, is a three-acre green space that village officials hope will become Mayfield's version of Cain Park in Cleveland Heights or Perici Amphitheatre in Twinsburg. The Grove, in Mayfield Village's Greenway Corridor, has access to the Greenway trail system, the Cleveland Metroparks North Chagrin Reservation, and the softball and soccer fields.

Residents will be invited to an open house on June 22 where they can let officials know what uses they want to see for The Grove. Officials have also planned three activities for the space:

  • Dancing Under the Stars - tentatively scheduled for Aug. 24, people will be invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs and enjoy music and dancing.
  • Outdoor Yoga - instructors from Cleveland Yoga will get area residents fit with a large session in September.
  • Lincoln at The Grove - an Abraham Lincoln impersonator from the Cleveland Civil War Roundtable will visit Mayfield Village for an entertaining, presidential presentation later this year.

"I think it sounds really exciting," Mayfield Village Director of Administration Diane Wolgamuth said. "We're really in that exploring statge to figure out what will attract people. We'll see what reactions we'll get."

The cost for Phase I infrastructure of The Grove is about $100,000. That will include earthwork and drainage; asphalt walkways and extensive electrical work. By late 2014, the village will install more infrastructure, including a stage, Wolgamuth said.
