Mayfield Heights Looking To Fill Vacancy On City Council

The vacancy on Council was created when Council President Anthony DiCicco became city mayor after the previous mayor, Gregory Costabile, resigned from the position.

The Mayfield Heights City Council is accepting applications for consideration in filling a vacancy for a Council member.

Qualifications for said council seat, as set forth in the Charter of the City of Mayfield Heights are as follows:

  • Applicant must have resided continuously for not fewer than three years within the city immediately preceding his or her appointment.
  • Applicant cannot hold any other public office or employment with the city of Mayfield Heights.

Applications should include a letter of intent as well as a current resume or curriculum vitae, a brief background of the applicant (including education and employment history,) their reasons for wanting to serve as a Council member, and any civic or community involvement with the city of Mayfield Heights.

This appointment to fill the vacancy shall be made before March 18 and the successful applicant will hold office until December 31, 2013.

According to the Charter of the City of Mayfield Heights, Article IV, Section 3, because this unexpired term runs through December 31, 2015, an election to fill the vacancy must be held at the next municipal election on November 5.

Candidates must file petitions with the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections by August 7, 2013 in order to be on the ballot.

All applications shall be submitted to the attention of the Clerk of Council, Robert G. Tribby, 6154 Mayfield Road, Mayfield Hts., Ohio 44124, no later than 5 p.m. on February 15, 2013.
