Highland Heights Puts Highland Medical Center on Ballot

As expected, the unanimously voted Tuesday to put the rezoning of property for the on the November ballot.

The measure will change the site at the center from a residential to a parking area and attempt to add some 32 parking spaces at the site.

“I believe the owner has justified his need for a parking expansion into that area,” Council President said.

The ballot issue must be submitted to the board of elections by Aug. 6

Building owner was unable to get the rezoning of the property approved in time for. At the time, members of the planning and zoning commission had issues with the maps that were presented. Plus Cavolo wasn't planning to do anything with the Brainard Rd. property until this year.

The center’s parking lot has 56 spaces which are short of the estimated 75 to 80 needed to meet city codes. The plan was to add parking so employees wouldn’t have to use the former Catalano's lot across the street.

• Council adopted a resolution to accept Pat Flowers as the lowest bidder for the striping of streets throughout the city for $36,938.46, and it suspended the second and third readings to do so. City engineer Brian Mader hopes the work will be finished in time for next school season.
• A motion was accepted to make a payment of $8,201 to for the first session tennis lessons.
• Council also resolved to keep the fire department with the Hillcrest Regional Fire Investigation Strike Force which also services the cities of Beachwood, Lyndhurst, Mayfield Heights, Pepper Pike, Richmond Heights, South Euclid and the villages of and . It is used by departments to determine the origin and cause of fire incidents.
• A motion was also adopted to accept Babin Kitchen and Bath’s bid to not exceed $12,000 to remodel the kitchen cabinets in the fire station.
