Gates Mills Adjusts Holiday Construction Schedule

Council also passes ordinance on building demolitions

Gates Mills council is hoping an adjustment to the construction schedule on holidays will make things a little quieter around the village.

Council passed an ordinance during Tuesday’s meeting regulating the hours when contractors can work on holidays after the village had received complaints about noise, Mayor Shawn Riley said.

With the new ordinance, no construction can occur on weekdays and Saturday before 7:30 a.m. or continue past 8 p.m. or on national holidays or Sundays before 9 a.m. or beyond 5 p.m.

Prior to the ordinance, holiday construction times were the same as weekday and Saturday hours.

Council also passed an ordinance requiring homeowners to obtain a permit to perform building and other structural demolitions in areas not designated as historic district or landmarks. Riley said a few residents had come forward, and the village didn’t have anything on record that dictated how the process was to be enacted.

  • Some residents at the meeting requested that council place an officer or a temporary traffic signal at the intersection of Wilson Mills and River Rd. until road repairs are finished. But council rejected the request because it felt traffic had improved enough after the first two weeks of construction that such a measure wasn’t required, Riley said.
  • Also, the village accepted the highest of five bids for $4,610.52 for a 2008 Ford Durango.
