Deacon's Rezoning Issue Passes in Mayfield Village

Dealership can use residential land for car storage.

Mayfield Village voters approved a on Tuesday's ballot to allow for an expansion at , 835 SOM Center Rd.

"That makes me feel really good," company president James W. Deacon said about the vote, which was about 3-1 in favor of the rezoning. "That means people want us to stay in Mayfield Village.

Issue 82 was sought to rezone two residential properties on Wilson Mills Road for use by the car dealership, which has a $2.5 million expansion project planned. Deacon said the land will be used to store cars and was needed in order to make the renovation project work.

Deacon's has planned a 12,574-square-foot showroom addition to allow for the addition of the Dodge and Ram product lines.

"I have to thank everybody. I lot of people at my dealership worked hard on this. It's most gratifying that the residents support us," said Deacon, who will now seek financing for the expansion plan.

He said engineering and architectural drawings will take about three months to complete, with groundbreaking likely to take place next spring.
