5 Things You Need to Know This Week

Ice cream social, Cleveland Orchestra preview and more

1. The Mayfield Township Historical Society will host an ice cream social at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Room, 6621 Wilson Mills Road. Cost is $3. In addition to ice cream, there will be homemade goodies and a DVD and pictorial history of the Bennett-VanCuren Museum. Quilt raffle tickets are available from members or by calling 440-461-0055.

2. Write Time, Write Now, the Mayfield Writers' Group, will meet from 7-8 p.m. today at the Cuyahoga County Public Library , 6622 Wilson Mills Road. The meeting is open to interested writers in any genre.

3. City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. today at City Hall, 6154 Mayfield Road. The agenda includes a special presentation by the Hillcrest 100 for the SPAN Bomb Squad.

4. Corporate Club: Globalizing Cleveland will be presented from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Corporate Club at Landerhaven, 6111 Landerhaven Dr., Mayfield Heights. Cost is $35 per person. Ratner of Forest City Enterprises; Barbara Snyder, Case Western Reserve University president; and Larry Benders, Cuyahoga County development director.

5. A Cleveland Orchestra Community Concert Preview will be presented from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Thursday at Cuyahoga County Public Library , 1491 Chagrin River Road. Cleveland Orchestra's Rose Breckinridge will review the 2011-12 Severance Hall season. Breckenridge has a doctorate degree from Case Western Reserve University and lectures for the Cleveland Orchestra's Music Study Groups. To register for the free program, click here.
