Suspicious Magazine Subscription Sellers: Mayfield Heights Police Blotter

The following information was supplied by the Mayfield Heights Police Department.

Incidents reported June 6-8:

Can I come in? A woman on Ashcroft Drive told Mayfield Heights Police that a man came to her home at 2:08 p.m. June 6 to sell magazine subscriptions. He began acting suspiciously when she declined his offer.

The woman said the man asked to enter her home to see what time it was after said 'no' to the magazines. She did not let him in, and he left. The man told police he was working for "Local Pen" and did not have a permit for door-to-door soliciting, which is required.

Scamming subscriptions? A caller told Police two days later that suspicious males near Target were trying to sell magazine subscriptions to benefit a children's hospital around 4:30 p.m.

The caller believed this was a scam because the flyer was clearly homemade. Police were unable to locate the men. Similar incidents were reported that week on Cordova Road and Woodhurst Avenue.

Argument nearly spills over: A driver noticed a confrontation brewing around 6 p.m. June 8 on the east side of the Walmart parking lot.

The person told police three girls arguing in the lot and appearing on the verge of exchanging blows near Tire and Wheel. Though police arrived within minutes, the argument was broken up and one of the girl's fathers came to pick two of them up.
